Reconstruction dbq free essay sample
However, in n effort to discredit the Republican Party, he only made a fool of himself, (famously known as Johnnys Swing Around the Circle) and helped the Republican Party win 2/3rd of the seats in Congress, which gave them the majority to easily override Johnnys vetoes. As a result, the Republicans could aid African Americans and put into place the Reconstruction Act Of 1 867, which was much more successful than Johnnys presidential reconstruction. In fact, Congress efforts were so effective that the South felt the need fight Republican dominance. For example, bulldozing, using physical violence as a means to discourage black men from voting, was extremely successful. In short, though reconstruction (especially presidential reconstruction), did have its limitations and was not a complete success, it was a step in the right direction. Lincoln overly generous Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction, also known as the plan, was deliberately designed to make easy the process of absorbing the Confederacy back into the Union. We will write a custom essay sample on Reconstruction dbq or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page However, Radical Republicans, namely Charles Sumner and Thatched Stevens, did not think this was severe enough or actually secured freed slaves heir civil rights. They presented the Wade-Davis Bill, which made it harder for Confederate states to enter the Union, and gave less room for former Confederates to return to positions of power. Because Lincoln was more focused on healing the nation than punishing the Confederacy-?whom he believes never actually seceded, but instead were in a state of insurrection-?though, he pocket vetoed the bill.Radical Republicans thus feared that the South could start reverting back to its old ways unless they worked to learn their lesson the hard way. Radical Republicans initially found ore favor with the next president, Andrew Johnson, who at first seemed like he would be more vindictive towards the South with his New Proclamation of Amnesty. However, Johnson, as a tailors son who never fit into Southern high society, was vulnerable to be wooed by the South into doing reconstruction even more leniently than Lincoln did! He pardoned 1 3,000 ingratiating Southerners. What happened next was huge, and would violate the principles of the war that had just been fought. Former high Confederates were seated right back into Congress (just as Radical Republicans had feared), and they ride to ma intain blacks in slavery under another name: Black Codes. Because blacks were granted freedom by the 13th amendment and that could not be changed, Southerners took the next best step and limited blacks freedom with the Black Codes, which practically contradicted everything the Union fought for in the Civil War and kept blacks in a state of De facto slavery. Because blacks could not secure independent work, they found themselves sharecropping, or working under cash-poor landlords who provided housing, tools, and plant-seed, in return for 2/3rd of their harvest. However, this did not provide blacks with enough money to support themselves, and they became indebted to their landlords. In this light, reconstruction was extremely limited and hardly successful: Southerners bought Johnnys favor with flattery, voted former Confederates in Congress, and then those Confederates slyly re-enslaved freedmen under the Black Codes. Blacks were enjoying neither liberty nor civil rights.Another reason that presidential reconstruction was hardly successful was that Johnson continued to veto Congress bills. Not only was Johnson in new ties with the South, he was a racist Democrat. He rejected the Freedmans Bureau, (which supported blacks with medical care, education, food, and courts), with the claim that the lazy blacks would only grow more lazy. He rejected the Civil Rights Act of 1 866, which granted citizenship and civil rights to black men, on the grounds that such an act exceeded Congress authority, and that such a phenomenon would only create racial strife. However, Radical Republicans, joined by moderate Republicans, (who began to notice the pattern of Johnnys vetoes), overrode the veto. Republicans, realizing that blacks freedom was still in danger, presented the fourteenth amendment, which ranted citizenship and civil rights to all those who are born in America, as well as guaranteed life, liberty, and property which could only be denied through due process, and lastly, Congressional authority to enforce the amendment.Johnson, being a Democrat who saw the fourteenth amendment as being a violation Of states rights, convinced all Southern state legislatures, with the exception of his home state Tennessee, to not ratify the amendment. It is ironic that Johnson vetoed many bills and acts which were intended to grant blac ks civil rights in order to protect states rights. Johnson did not fight or the liberty of men; he fought for the liberty of states. He was racist, and he was a Democrat. At this point, it was up to Congress to make for some effective reconstruction. After Johnson humiliated himself in his Swing Around the circle and helped the Republicans gain 2/3rd of the seats in Congress, Republicans had the majority they needed to override his vetoes and start implementing laws that protected blacks. They enforced the Reconstruction Act of 1867, an entirely new plan of reconstruction to protect blacks, with the Bayonet Rule, by which Union troops deterred the oppression f blacks in the South. This was extremely effective. Blacks could now vote and hold office! In time, the presence Of the Republican party dominated Of the South, and blacks stood right behind them. Furthermore, the fifteenth amendment secured black mens right to vote (for the Republican Party! ). Congressional reconstruction was very successful and produced excellent results at first: extending universal male suffrage, disenfranchising ex- Confederates for a certain amount of time, requiring public schooling for blacks and whites, rebuilding infrastructure, and creating welfare programs or the poor. The South criticized the Bayonet Rule with the myth of Negro Rule, which claimed that naive freedman elected depraved black politicians who permitted interracial marriage, though. They were outraged at the dramatic changes taking place in the South. In this time arose the UK Klux Klan, led by Nathan Bedford Forrest. The UK Klux Klan murdered all Republican Party supporters in an effort to crush Republican dominance in the South and reestablish the Democratic Party. And though they were indicted as a result of the Force Act of 1 871, few were convicted. This would e a mistake; more should have been convicted.

Evolution of Management Thoughts Reflection Paper Essays
Evolution of Management Thoughts Reflection Paper Essays Evolution of Management Thoughts Reflection Paper Paper Evolution of Management Thoughts Reflection Paper Paper Evolution of Management Thoughts Reflection Paper by: Ryan T. Lorico The universe is a gigantic organization. It is an intertwined facet of thoughts, imagination, and reality. It is an object of endless puzzles and loopholes. Like an organization, entities are always subjected to question and argue, to change and advance. Furthermore, it is labyrinth where youll get lost and may never come out; a maze of constantly changing walls giving way for evolution and reincarnation of objects and beliefs. Life, for me, is a process of learning and management. It is because you need to plan how to live your everyday. My mind tells me that you are your lifes own manager. You are your accountant, messenger, and your help. As humans, we are obligated to adjust and measure the changing environment. As the world or universe change, so must we, as what Charles Darwin was telling us centuries ago. Indeed, the world is a battlefield; you must be fit to survive. In the same way, for you to prolong your career or to even live up your life, you must be well rounded with ideas of survival. Evolution, as the word tells us, are changes made to either develop or destroy us. An evolution phase can either be an end of an era or a start of a new ideology. Evolution is a cycle. In every evolution phase, new techniques to manage our day-to-day are invented. History tells us, from Socrates to modern philosophers, that indeed, changes took place, shaping our world that we have today; and humans as managers of the world, tried to reshape their principles and policies, to re-access life and on how to manage it. Looking back, pagans before believed that everything around them is free and holy. They managed their lives through instinct and nature-lore. They do not have neither the technology nor concept; no form of monetary or trade. Our ancestors are free-dwelling; who would have thought that from pagans and savages, well be as modern and advance as we are today? Thus, contributions of our great philosophers will always be remembered till the end of our civilization. Those concepts will be foundations of modernization and building blocks of todays society. For years to come there will be new Socrates and the likes; as well as new philosophies that will run the world as it turns, thus, evolution and cycle continues.

Kirchhoffs Laws for Current and Voltage
Kirchhoff's Laws for Current and Voltage In 1845, German physicist Gustav Kirchhoff first described two laws that became central to electrical engineering. Kirchhoffs Current Law, also known as Kirchhoffs Junction Law, and Kirchhoffs First Law, define the way that electrical current is distributed when it crosses through a junction- a point where three or more conductors meet. Put another way, Kirchhoffs Laws state that the sum of all currents leaving a node in an electrical network is always equal to zero, notes Resistor Guide. These laws are extremely useful in real life because they describe the relation of values of currents that flow through a junction point and voltages in an electrical circuit loop, explains Rapid Tables. In other words, these rules describe how electrical current flows in all of the billions of electric appliances and devices, as well as throughout homes and businesses, that are in use continually on Earth. Kirchhoffs Laws: The Basics Specifically, the laws state that: The algebraic sum of current into any junction is zero. Since current is the flow of electrons through a conductor, it cannot build up at a junction, meaning that current is conserved: What goes in must come out. You can think of perhaps the most well-known example of a junction: a junction box. These boxes are installed on most houses: They are the boxes that contain the wiring through which all electricity in the home must flow. When performing calculations, then, the current flowing into and out of the junction typically has opposite signs. You can also state Kirchhoffs Current Law as: The sum of current into a junction equals the sum of current out of the junction. You can further break down the two laws more specifically. Kirchhoffs Current Law In the picture, a junction of four conductors (wires) is shown. The currents i2 and i3 are flowing into the junction, while i1 and i4 flow out of it. In this example, Kirchhoffs Junction Rule yields the following equation: i 2 i 3 i 1 i 4 Kirchhoffs Voltage Law Kirchhoffs Voltage Law describes the distribution of electricalà voltage within a loop, or closed conducting path, of an electrical circuit. Specifically, Kirchhoffs Voltage Law states that: The algebraic sum of the voltage (potential) differences in any loop must equal zero. The voltage differences include those associated with electromagnetic fields (emfs) and resistive elements, such as resistors, power sources (for example, batteries) or devices (such as lamps, televisions, and blenders) plugged into the circuit. In other words, you can picture this as the voltage rising and falling as you proceed around any of the individual loops in the circuit. Kirchhoffs Voltage Law comes about because the electrostatic field within an electric circuit is a conservative force field. In fact, the voltage represents the electrical energy in the system, so it can be thought of as a specific case of conservation of energy. As you go around a loop, when you arrive at the starting point has the same potential as it did when you began, so any increases and decreases along the loop have to cancel out for a total change of zero. If it didnt, then the potential at the start/end point would have two different values. Positive and Negative Signs in Kirchhoffs Voltage Law Using the Voltage Rule requires some sign conventions, which arent necessarily as clear as those in the Current Rule. You choose a direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) to go along the loop. When traveling from positive to negative ( to -) in an emf (power source) the voltage drops, so the value is negative. When going from negative to positive (- to ) the voltage goes up, so the value is positive. Remember that when traveling around the circuit to apply Kirchhoffs Voltage Law, be sure you are always going in the same direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) to determine whether a given element represents an increase or decrease in the voltage. If you begin jumping around, moving in different directions, your equation will be incorrect. When crossing a resistor, the voltage change is determined by the formula I*R, where I is the value of the current and R is the resistance of the resistor. Crossing in the same direction as the current means the voltage goes down, so its value is negative. When crossing a resistor in the direction opposite the current, the voltage value is positive (the voltage is increasing). Applying Kirchhoffs Voltage Law The most basic applications for Kirchhoffs Laws are in relation to electrical circuits. You may remember from middle school physics that electricity in a circuit must flow in one continuous direction. If you break the circuit- by flipping off a light switch- you are breaking the circuit, and hence turning off the light. Once you flip the switch, you re-engage the circuit, and the lights come back on. Or, think of stringing lights on your house or Christmas tree. If just one light bulb blows out, the entire string of lights goes out. This is because the electricity, stopped by the broken light, has no place to go. Its essentially the same as turning off the light switch and breaking the circuit. The other aspect of this with regard to Kirchhoffs Laws is that the sum of all electricity going into and flowing out of a junction must be zero: The electricity going into the junction (and flowing around the circuit) must equal zero because the electricity that goes in must also come out. So, next time youre working on your junction box (or observing an electrician doing so), stringing electric holiday lights, or even just turning on or off your TV or computer, remember that Kirchhoff first described how it all works, thus ushering in the age of electricity that the world now enjoys.

Assignment Example The supporters and advocates for Affordable health care in their previous sign up efforts, have come to the realization that from the few lessons learnt during the sign up efforts, in which a significant number of individuals previously uninsured managed to buy the cover. From the lessons learnt during the sign up effort, the supporters, and advocates of the Affordable health care plan on implementing the same effort that saw millions of uninsured people get the cover, as a marketing strategy for the next enrolment period, in an urge to increase awareness of the importance of buying the cover. Previously, many people opted for private insurance; however, the approach faced certain technical problems prior to the sign up process (Radnofsky), an aspect that proves the success of the sign up effort. As an aspect of in for the fall, research has shown that indeed, there is an increased focus on in-person help with testimonials from real people, making more emphasis on deadlines as pertai ning to Affordable health care. On the out aspect, getting a health care coverage has become an individualized mandate, which motivates more people into signing up for the cover. Previously the law required that all people should sign up for the cover or risk a penalty when filing their taxes (Radnofsky). The main aspect of study in this particular course is marketing, especially on the role that it plays in making informative approach to potential customers on the benefits of a particular good or service as addressed or provided by an organization against other competitors in the same industry. Based on such a perspective, it is significantly clear that marketing increases the chances of an organization or institution getting access to a bigger market. The article Health-Law Advocates to Tweak ACA Marketing Campaign for the fall, clearly indicates that before the sign up effort by the advocates

Diversity of Life Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Diversity of Life - Essay Example These vital factors play an imperative role in deciding the kind of flora and fauna of the place, accordingly, different kinds of ecosystems are present in different parts of the world. Tropical zone is hot as it receives most of the sunlight falling on the planet. The rate of evaporation is also high, rainfall and humidity is more. The vegetation is thick and most of the Rainforest is present in this region. Thus, climate of a place decides the vegetation and animals of the place. For instance, desert conditions cannot support pine forest but they support animals like camel with padded hoofs to walk on the hot sand and membrane-covered eyes to see during desert storm. The animal is well adapted to live under water scarcity condition because of its hump which stores fat. In a similar manner, desert conditions also support cactus plants which are well adapted to the climatic conditions of desert, the leaves are modified as spines and thick stem to carry out the process of photosynthesis. In a similar manner, pine trees with conical shape and wax coated, needle like leaves are the adaptive features of the flora belonging to the frigid zone. The conical shape and wax coated leaves of the plant allows snow to slide off the plant. Needle like leaves allow air to pass through the plants, these features aid in better survival of the plant. The fauna of the frigid zone encompasses polar bear which has white fur for protection from the chill of snow and also to escape from the enemies. Other animals encompass seal, wolf and dogs called huskies. Temperate zone on the other hand, possess mild climate which is neither too hot nor too cold. This climatic zone supports good conditions for the survival of humans, as the climate is moderate it allows proliferation of numerous life forms. Distribution of animals and plants in this climatic zone is also supported by the environmental agents and the

Time in the Great Gatsby Essay Example for Free
Time in the Great Gatsby Essay People of the Old Money are a tight-knit group; their connections with other rich and powerful families have been created in the past and maintained for a long time, so they possess a certain amount of grace, taste and social subtlety that other classes lack. These connections, and other factors, are what make this social class powerful, and therefore they are able to stay safe and comfortable behind their money and status. In the final chapters, Daisy commits an unpardonable crime by running Myrtle down while driving Gatsbys car. Myrtle dies, but Daisy, because of her money and status, escapes without accepting any responsibility. Gatsby represents New Money. Such nouveau-riche has gained wealth in the post-war economic boom of the 20s, and in Gatsbys case, through illegal activities. However, even with the acquisition of immense wealth, Fitzgerald shows it is impossible for a person born into a lower class to move up the hierarchy. Many of these people are ostentatious and lack the social graces and taste of the Old Money class. This factor is obvious in Gatsbys monstrous mansion, his yellow Rolls Royce and his weekly parties. In fact, the whole of West Egg is described as vulgar (Daisy), if seen through the eyes of the more dignified and reserved residents of East Egg. When the Buchannans attend one of Gatsbys parties, Daisy is appalled by West Egg, stating that it had raw vigour that chafed under the old euphemisms. (pg. 103) Despite his wealth, it is apparent that Gatsby will never fully belong to the Old Money class. This is explained when Tom, Mr Sloane and a lady visit Gatsbys house. When the lady includes Gatsby in the invitation to her house for supper, he completely misses the subtle reluctance in her offer and accepts. The fact that the offer was just out of politeness can be seen when Tom states, Doesnt he know she doesnââ¬â¢t want him? (pg. 100) Furthermore, Gatsby does not have any social connections with other aristocratic people, and this is shown best when he distances himself from his guests. Gatsby can never really escape his humble origins. He was essentially herdedâ⬠¦ along a short cut from nothing to nothing (pg. 03) Nothing symbolises his poverty-stricken boyhood, but also foreshadows that eventually, he will end up with nothing. He has played host to a multitude of people at his extravagant parties, but dies friendless and almost alone. In the America of the 1920s, many people acquired wealth, but that did not guarantee acceptance into the ranks of those who were considered Old Money. As a novel about wealth, Fitzgerald makes a distinct s tatement that Gatsby, a representative of the New Money group, does not have the innate qualities of people such as Tom and Daisy. Thus, it is impossible for these classes to integrate completely.

Organizational Life Cycle Essay -- essays research papers
Running head: ORGANIZATIONAL LIFE CYCLE Organizational Life Cycle Organizational Life Cycle Organizations go through different life cycles similar to those of people. For example, people go through infancy, child-hood and early-teenage phases, which are characterized by rapid growth over a short period of time. Similarly, Organizations go through start-up, growth, maturity, decline, renewal and death. Employees in these phases often do whatever it takes to stay employed. (Ciavarella, 2001) In the start-up phase of an organizational life cycle, employees are eager to make a name for themselves and often act impulsively, making highly reactive decisions based on whatever is going on around them at the moment. Struggling to survive. This is just one of the many challenges a manager will face during this phase of change. To help staff understand the complexities of the early phase of organizational development. The manager must provide a clear understanding of the purpose of the organization to the employees. Emphasizing the importance of recognizing the direction the company is going and how its methods of working can be improved. Plus, explaining the identification of general objectives would lead to the clarification of responsibilities and purpose at each level of the organization. When a manager discusses these issues with his team, he is encouraging ownership by the employees. (Moore, 2004) The distinction between the start-up and growth stages in not easily defined. The distinction lies in the revenues, profits are stronger and are consistent with an increase in customers, as well as, new and exciting opportunities for the employees to pursue. Managers can look forward to many managerial challenges, perspective policy issues and re-evaluating the business plan for revisions. A managerââ¬â¢s focus should be in the running of the business, with a greater emphasis on accounting and human resource management systems. New staff will have to be hired, trained and prepared for the influx of business. Managers should be ready to teach the importance of decision-making skills and reinforcing organizational policy. Avoiding hasty, careless decisions, which can have devastating results on the manager's unit or the entire organization. Decisions made with forethought, using the many managerial tools available will lead to better and more profitable operatio... ...ity of purpose and direction for an organization. We create and maintain the internal environment in which people can become fully involved in achieving the organization's objectives. Managers are responsible for changing behaviors. Which is probably the most critical area in the organizational life cycle. Finally, managers empower and involve people to achieve the organization's objective.
